"Home of Good Eats." I googled their business and you can see it on their store front.
Unique/eclectic restaurant! Very good homestyle food. Not fast food in any sense. Be prepared to take your time.
Cash only so be prepared, there is an atm accross the street
Not sure if this is still true but about 4 years ago this place was better on weekdays than on weekends. Not sure about present day. The biscuits and gravy are top notch on Wednesday. Bacon is quality. Service can be slow if they have large groups. Cash only. Cheapest breakfast around, but definitely not the worst in quality. I am doubtful of how accommodating they might be of dietary restrictions.
Negative five stars. Don't eat here unless you are racist or you have all day to wait for your food.My family and I visited Ferndale to soak in the many places of interest, only to come across what we thought looked like a neighborly, low-key establishment. We got seated and ordered simple things -- sandwiches and burgers. We waited for our food for AT LEAST 70 MINUTES when it wasn't even busy. To make matters worse, the hometown boys with confederate flag apparel who showed up twenty minutes after us had eaten, paid, and left, 30 minutes before we even received our food. And when the food did arrive, the waitress didn't even issue so much of an explanation, let alone an apology. Luckily we took the high road, didn't make a fuss, and decided to never come back. And the food sucked.
Always delicious.
It doesn't matter how long it takes to get your food in a small town. When it's done right, that's all that matters. Food was great! Service was great! Location was perfect! Thanks!
Good sandwhich
I constantly come buying some food in this place. I enjoy the fast customer service and well made food. Kudos.
Excellent. Good price. Pancakes are enormous. Good specials.
so yummy and quick
Phenomenal American breakfast place. informal, and easy, the food is quintessential local spot. Tasty, not for a gastrovore- plain well done food.
Just follow your nose in the morning to this breakfast place. Atmosphere was great with ranchers and loggers playing games at tables. A Victorian. Style restaurant with food like you used to be able to get anywhere perfect place for breakfast when coming through Ferndale.
really good food
This place is awesome! The staff are always friendly, and the food is always good! Can't beat the Joe's Breakfast, in my opinion.
Excellent service; if you are looking for the all American country breakfast this is the place to go!
Fantastic breakfast in a nostalgic environment, great detour for us and really happy we stopped here before getting back on the highway.
Delicious food! Great, smooth coffee!!Cash only. Well worth the drive into Ferndale from the 101! Beautiful town.
You walk in and know instantly it's the kind of relaxed place where you can wind down and enjoy some good home-cooked food. Great service and excellent food, be forewarned: the pancakes are ginormous!!!!
Great food, great service,on busy days it takes awhile to get your food but great place to eat.
Great place to get home cooked meal
An old favorite. Good food, good service, good people.
Good, basic breakfast food. Eggs, meat, potatoes, and coffee done right in an old pharmacy building in historic Ferndale. With old farmers and ranchers playing cards in the back and no cell service inside, relax and let yourself be transported to a time before electronics and fancy lattes.
You won't leave hungry.....and homemade jams homegrown veggies when in season CASH ONLY. Love it here have gone quite a few times....
Cute little diner in an old school town. Poker games going on in the background during breakfast!
Huge portions, cozy old time atmosphere and wonderful service!! Poppa Joe's also has gift certificates!! Perfect stocking stuffer
Good country food made with love.A great place to eat. Hard to beat!Open 6am to 2pm Sundays open until 12 noon.
Great food great service
Great breakfast. Huge portions! Wonderful place to eat!
Awesome breakfast, friendly people in a historical building with vintage furnishings...it was like stepping back in time into a better world. Nobody had a smart phone stuck in their face. People were talking and having conversations or reading a newspaper while they enjoyed their cup of coffee and eating a tasty breakfast. Highly recommended!
First visit...loved it! Good food, service, and a nice place!
Nice little distraction from our vacation in the Redwoods. The burgers were fresh and delicious. The interior evokes memories of the bygone days. And we will think of this place fondly.
Great breakfast food, gave off the real home style vibe. All the employees worked well together and greater us with a smiling face. Stopped in town on our way thru California and glad we came here.
Good home cooked meals
Lots of fond memories here, been going here for a long time. Typical greasy spoon but in a good way. Everyone knows everyone else and when you need a coffee refill, you can go get it yourself and when you do, you fill everyone else's along the way. Food is always good and plenty of it. Breakfast all day; that's speaking my language. Homemade jams are always awesome and the people are friendly. This is a must stop place for that lovley small town atmosphere and hearty home cooked grub.Hale the Lourenzo clan.
The staff were helpful and kind. The food was good. I ordered Joe's breakfast I believe it was called. The ham slice was good, big, and thick. There were a lot of hashbrowns, not just a little round of them. The eggs were perfect. The atmosphere was nice for my friends and I to sit and talk. I took the leftovers home and the wolves descended. It was a good amount of food. In addition to the above mentioned, there were four half slices of rye bread buttered just a little bit, which is just how I like it. They brought out jam and ketchup. Hot sauce, salt, pepper, etc. were already on the table.
I love Papa Joe's for breakfast, the ambiance, but mostly for the friends I go there with. Great place to sit and visit for awhile without being rushed.
This place was delicious and inviting! We will definitely be visiting again.
Have had the pleasure of eating breakfast here on two occasions while visiting Ferndale. Atmosphere in the restaurant is fantastic. Makes it feel like a time machine when you step through the doors. Service was great and the oatmeal and pancakes I had were delicious.
Wow. Good stuff
Poppa Joe's is a great place to get amazing food, huge portions, prices are very reasonable and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The service is not the fastest but they make up for it with the foods taste and the size of your portion. This is a cash only restaurant so be sure to have cash or you might end up washing dishes. While you are there and if your coffee or soft drink runs empty I learned its easier to help yourself. Still some of the best service and food I've had for a while. I will be a return customer for sure.
Had the special of the day, (BBQ Pulled Pork on a hoagie roll w/ fries). Delicious! Great place!!
Small oil place food wasnt to bad.
This place is authentic Americana. Ordered breakfast special: 1 waffle 2 eggs (over easy) 4 strips of bacon 1 OJ. $13. All very good.
Once again a fabulous breakfast! Had chicken fried steak 😋 it was delicious.
Could have had a more obvious "Cash Only" sign but had good food and courteous service.
My brother and I stopped by for breakfast after 4 days hiking the Lost Coast last Sunday. Unfortunately the power was out due to the fires so they had a limited breakfast menu. All I can say is after 4 days of freeze dried meals, the biscuits and gravy that they served were out of this world good!!! Their coffee was made on the stove and was great! Great atmosphere from what I could see in the dark and the girls working there were extremely helpful. I will definitely be going back next time I’m driving through!!
Excellent breakfast and lunch place. Do not be in a hurry though.
Went to Poppa Joe's for breakfast! The omelette I got was AMAZING but it was so much my friend and I could have split it. (Definitely will the next time we go.) HEADS UP: they only accept cash here. However the wait on our food was pretty long, almost 45 - 60 minutes after we ordered. Only reason I didn't give it a 5 star.
The best breakfast around.
The breakfast was perfect and the old guys playing poker at 9am in the back was very interesting. Made me feel at home.
